We Need Duels Or 1v1 Arenas! Vote Here
Hey guys!
First of all: in terms of PvP GW just beats the cake and is the most amazing PvP I have ever gotten to play. There is only one thing that I am missing: a real, tough and fierce 1 vs. 1 fight. A place or opportunity to challenge somebody in a 1 vs. 1 battle! and most important: ppl should be able to see it. Not only to feel the pain of losing and the honor of winning. Also to learn from it. And this is what gives you the thrill as well.
I think a suggestion that would fit into GW very well is to make a 1 vs. 1 arena: Now, either you get in there as a team but each member fights 1 vs. 1 and the team with the more wins wins (lol). You'd need an odd number of players then per team ofc. So for example: we'd have a Team / Random arena where you fight 1 vs. 1 and with your win you get your team 1 point. The team with the more ponints wins.
Or lets just have a random arena where instead of a whole team its only you and one opponent.
Or, as I have played it in WoW, try to get a similar duel system. Thats similar to trading with somebody (kind of) only that you get to fight him/her then until one of you has like 1 % HP left. (I hope I explained that all right...)
Anyways, I think it wouldnt matter how this is arranged. But some way to fight 1 vs. 1 would really be the point above the i and would make me love this game even more. No, it would make me adore this game even more!! :P
What do you guys think about this? I bet you all had that feeling to just kick another guys butt in a 1 vs. 1 fight. Or how I hate it when warriors claim to own mesmers! Lets fight it out!
Any comment appreciated

not that bad an idea!
like the idea of team fights! but i guess there soon will be some builds that really kick arse and then it will get booring (thinking of touchers e.g. ...)

Completely useless. GW is designed and balanced for team play. 1V1 means absolutely nothing. Less than nothing actually. It would be totally dependant on what build each person is running. A warrior versus an anticaster mesmer would last all of 3 seconds. That same mesmer against an ele would be just as short. A couple noobie wamo builds would last for years, neither one actually bringing any damage skills.

exactly. it would totally depend on the builds. Players would need new builds for this new "discipline".

I'd bring a monk with Pacifism with an enchanting hilt, and arcane echo it and laugh at a warrior/sin/ranger for not being able to attack. You'd be quite bored, wouldn't ya? Then you'd rage, and the pacifism monk will keep going until he encounters a mesmer or ele or damage rit. All he has to do is hit 1 button every 3so often, he can do it while alt tabbing out and surfing the web. What great joy 1v1 arena's can be.
As stated above, GW is a team game, the only 1v1s that happen is flaggers in GvGs and even then it doesn't happen that often. So if you really want 1v1's, go do some scrims...Someone in RA question your sexual preference? Go guest him and beat him in a 1v1 scrim! Someone claims their pro when they're lying dead first in a mission? Guest him and do a 1v1!
Honestly, honor doesn't mean much and there really is no point to playing a 1v1 besides taking your chances and hoping your build will succesfully rape that W/E with meteorshower.

I maintain that the only worthwhile 1v1 dueling is pure-mesmer dueling, because it's more than just a spamfest.
Apart from that... 1v1 = who can press more attack spells faster.

Would certainly solve a lot of hate between players who diss each other builds all the time - could put their money where their mouths are once and for all.

What I love about the GW PvP is that for every spell there is some counter spell. That's why I dont think its possible to get an imba build and keep winning. This gets even more complex with the use of the secondary class and the fact that some classes have to go melee and others dont. A warrior cant catch me if he doenst have sprint i.e. Now, I am not trying to play "catch me if you can" but its even another factor that can make you win or lose. Cast dmg over time and keep the distance needs the use of the right skills and the use of moving correctly in the arena. And again: there are counter spells to all of it! You can slow people down! in 1 vs. 1 you would need builds to always get you into the position where you have the advantage and the opponent has the counter-skills and his skills to get his advantage. That's where I see the fun in this. In Team PvP each player has pretty much his role which is necessary to win together ofc. In a 1 vs. 1 fight its a totally different idea as I described it above! You need counter skills to defend your weaknesses and skills to get your advantage.
And about the honor thingy: trust me, it is fun. It's a totally different feeling to win in a 1 vs. 1 fight.
I agree though that the emphasis is on the Team PvP. Its called GUILD wars anyways
Still: this game is getting huge and is major in PvP. Let's increase the variety in PvP!

I thought you could 1v1 by using guild scrimmage, as long as one of you is an officer in your guild.
I dont know cause i never wanted to, but i thought thats how you could.

Yeah, just toss the duel mate a guest invite to the guild, then do a scrimmage. Easy 1 on 1 action.
Random 1 on 1 arena would be pointless as everyone already mentioned :b

Quoted for emphisis and signed against. If you want to duel someone, go do a scrimage.

It'd do one of two things.
1. Break the Game: becuase Anet would balance for 1v1 combat and screw over every other type of PvP in the process
2. Piss people Off: becuase Anet wouldn't balance for 1v1 combat and everyone would bitch about how unbalanced it is.

Everyone would play a warrior and monks can't win. Been suggested many times before and I think it will never work out.
So far the the scrimmages works good enough for me. I already know who I'm up against compared to having a random 1vs1 who's lucky enough to have the better build.

I agree with your general idea, but i think i know a better plan...
in guild wars core set, u have a mission called dalisseo seaboard or something(haven't done it in a while:P) When u enter the mission outpost, u see ele npc's fighting with grasping ghouls.
What I suggest is, a 1on1 arena outpost, where there is an arena in the center, where u can see a 1on1 fight taking place.
Offcourse you have to be lucky to spawn in that arena, but if u do, lots of people can enjoy u die/win. would be cool, and the chatters from random arena would have a place to sit n talk and watch fights.
PS: for all you complaining guys who don't know how to apreciate this guy's idea, i suggest a 1on1 arena where only the same primary professions can fight eachother, that way u don't get total unfair battles, but battles depending on your build, skill and speed.
"But guild wars is a mmo game, designed for balanced team play!" ... then why did ANET design a scrimmage guild battle where u can fight 1on1? If they would have made this game for balanced teamplay only, they would have made the scrimmage thing for full parties only, or atleast a party of 2, since u have a TEAM then.
And no, scrimmage is not ment for testing skills or builds, thats why we have Isle of the nameless.

No. That idea was already somewhat introduced in the guild hall scrimmage. Just take someone on in a guild hall then whoever dies wins. Dont do the whole thing. Its already there you just have to modify it a bit. Yes it would be interesting but as stated before GW is a TEAM game. Meant to be played with a team, not solo.

The Gladiators Arena was designed for this purpose, but it was removed from the game for the reasons stated above.
